Nobody answered my question
when i typed sudo find / -name libtotem-narrowspace-plugin.so to remove the quicktime plugin, I got 2 results. Shall I remove both of them? (one is in usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, the other is in usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/pluggins...
and how do I disable swfdec (i googled it quickly and i read that you are asked to remove gnome if you want to remove it...) ?

Hello,
Is your situation still the same? Do you still have the two versions of shockwave flash installed? Please type in your address bar:
and post the filenames that refer to Shockwave or Flashplayer here. We'll take it step by step from there. OK?
Kind regards,
Eric

Thanks Eric.
My situation is still the same and I still have the two versions of shockwave flash installed.
The plugins I have installed are vlc multimedia, windows media player, divx web player, quicktime, shockwave flash 9.0 & 10, java.
I think some of them are redondant (if I have vlc, I don't think I need quicktime, for example).

Hello,
Post the references to the files in regards to the shockwave players please. Type about lugins in your addressbar and post just the filenames like this:
Code:
Shockwave Flash
File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
Then we'll take it from there to try to solve your problem.
Kind regards,
Eric

Hi,
Ok, now open a terminal and type:
Code:
sudo find / -name 'libswfdecmozilla.so'
It will give you the path where the file is located. Next cd into that path:
Code:
sudo cd /full/path/fromresult/
Next delete the file:
Code:
sudo rm libswfdecmozilla.so
Close your Firefox and restart it. Next type
in the address bar and verify that there's only one Shockware plugin listed (version 10).
Then try to visit the pages that gave you problems again and post results here.
Kind regards,
Eric

(what does -name mean, and can't I just write sudo rm /full/path/fromresult/libswfdecmozilla.so ?)
I wrote sudo find / -name 'libswfdecmozilla.so', and I got 2 results :
/usr/lib/swfdec-mozilla/libswfdecmozilla.so
/usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libswfdecmozilla.so
Do I have to remove both of them?

instead of removing the files, I would suggest to rename them, so you can put them back in case of problems
Code:
mv /usr/lib/swfdec-mozilla/libswfdecmozilla.so /usr/lib/swfdec-mozilla/libswfdecmozilla.so.backup
mv /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libswfdecmozilla.so /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libswfdecmozilla.so.backup

Hi,
Like repo said, if you rename them you can always revert back although I don't think that might be necessary since the two versions ARE conflicting. Follow the instructions that repo posted. Then check your browser (about lugins) and try to view a website that used to give you errors.
Kind regards,
Eric

Ok, i'll do that. In the meantime, can you answer these small questions, so that i get to understand linux better :
what does -name mean, and can't I just write sudo rm /full/path/fromresult/libswfdecmozilla.so ?
and is there a way to copy/paste in a terminal without using the right mouse button? -oh, i just saw it's shift ctrl c/v ; can't it be changed to ctrl c/v ?
edit: I type sudo cd, it said sudo:cd: command not found.

Hello,
The -name argument you gave to the find command indicates that it has to look for a file with that name (between ' '). You can also use wildcards to specify a type for example mp3. There are a lot of options/parameters you can give to the find command in order to 'fine-tune' your search. Have a look at the man page for find:
.
Yes you can just type the rm command as you indicated, just make sure you don't make any typos.
About copy past in terminal, In mine (Slackware / KDE) I can use CTRL-SHIFT-C and CTRL-SHIFT-V. Also SHIFT-INS works to paste, both in terminal and in ssh.
Kind regards,
Eric
