LinuxQuestions.org - Firefox reset issue

Hi guys,

I am running Ubuntu 8.04, and I have a Firefox issue. I am running Firefox 3b5, but the version's potential instability is not the issue at hand(well, at least I think it's not). The problem is that every time I start up Firefox, it resets. Firefox acts as if it is being run for the first time. My bookmarks are still there and my addons are still installed, but Firefox makes it like all the addons were newly installed. I have Adblock plus installed, and when I start up Firefox the few configuration dialogs and popups jump to the screen. I also have the foxmarks beta installed, and when I load Firefox, I am greeted with the registration process every time. Also, the homepage is reset on startup every time. There may be other effects, but I am not aware of them.

I think I know why this problem started, but I do not know why. Recently, I wanted to upload a file to an online storage service, but, as the normal user, I lacked file permissions to do so. Instead of changing to the superuser to alter the file permissions, I decided to run Firefox as superuser. This got the job done; I was able to upload the file with Firefox. However, every subsequent time that I loaded Firefox as the normal user, it would reset itself, and, to avoid more problems, I do not want to run Firefox as superuser again. As a side note, if I have a running instance of Firefox, which already has rest itself, and I run another instance, the resetting does not occur. I do not think the last bit is meaningful, but it is just something I noticed. Any help would be much appreciated.
