firefox leathargy

Just a suggestion, if you are on fedora 8 then the chances maybe you are using an 'old' version of firefox. Assumming it does eventually work go to their website and upgrade to the latest version and hopefully this will automatically fix the problem.
Alternatives:

*. run FSCK from a bootable cd (after changing the boot sequence in the Bios).
*. if you have another browser use that to save a version of Firefox to file/cd before uninstalling your version of firefox and then install the new one or use anther computer to do the above.
*. run TOP from the command line as root and if firefox or other programmes are running away with cpu usage kill them and then restart Firefox from the GUI, it maybe that it is not firefox that is causing the problem- do you get warnings that a program is slowing your system?

These are just suggestions and the last is and the last is probably the least intrusive. If firefox is your only browser make sure you have a good copy before you remove it, sorry obvious really.

Fred.
