Firefox --- Find suxxors

Find works once.

If I use it twice, the graphics--url bar, google search, icons, etc--all get...washed away. Well, that is the only way I can describe it. They vanish leaving a gray box surrounding the webpage. I can still click on stuff. But it is all invisible. I am guessing about where to click.

Everything works perfectly as root user.

Anyone know where I am coming from?

By the way I compiled and installed from source, but even the binary does this for me.

Make sure when you install Firefox that you do not overwrite a previously installed version. You must first remove the installed version, or install to a different location, or you will get a ... suxxors installation.

Other than that, no I've never experienced what you describe.

Up late last night. Tried to recompile and reinstall for the hundredth time, but still no go. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I use a different prefix so I believe that I am installing fresh. I also save my bookmarks, passwords, etc and then delete .mozilla (and .firefox if that exists too) in both regular and root home directories. I don't know what else I can do to make a clean install.

I am becoming more and more convinced that something is failing in the software that firefox uses...libraries, something about gtk2 maybe. As root user everything works perfectly. As a regular user, it is broken for me.

Well for some reason...

Using the hotkey combo ctrl+F is what causes the error.

When I use / and then type what I am looking for, everything is perfect!

I just have to ween myself of the old habit.
