you might want to start a new thread for a new issue but what is this PDF ? opensuse 11.1 had i think GO-office , a fork of openoffice. ( a bit old but usable for any older file format) you will not be able to open a MS office 2012 docx file but you would be able to open a 2008 docx file gooffice should be able to open a pdf in writer now as to converting it into a spread sheet ???????? what is this pdf ? a CVS file or what ? some table or other thing that can be put into a spread sheet ? and what EXACT type of Microsoft .xlsx ( 2006 to 2013) or old .xls ( pre 2006 ) Microsoft format do you need or is the openoffice spread sheet .ods format fine ? |
I'm amazed that these people are new to Linux and they're installing years' old versions. Either that or they installed it a long time ago and did nothing, or inherited a system.

Hi, OP. How about you start Firefox in the terminal, by typing "firefox". It should give you much info about the issue. |
an OLD and SUPPORTED system is one thing
RHEL 4.9 is on Extra extended lifesupport RHEL 5.9 is old but supported SELS11 sp3 is aging but supported running Fedora 13 ? not good running Ubuntu 9 ? not good running OpenSUSE 11 point anything ( 1,2,3,4 ) ? not good running OpenSUSE 12.1 ? not good it went end of life back in May of this year ( May 15th 2013) there is the Evergreen project for opensuse ,but it is a bit iffy and for 11.2 and 11.4 http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Evergreen keeping a old and UNSUPPORTED version running is a heck of a lot of work you have to start building parts from source and you soon end up with a " Frankensteined " install a mix of different things |
John. Who cares if the system is supported. That is one of the points of open source and freedom. You can support your own system. Besides, who needs all the newest software all the time anyways?
Some people have old hardware and is better off with old distroes for example. What is the problem with using sources packages? I remember in the old days, we only used sources packages, and it was not a problem at all. Challenging, yes, but certainly not a problem. And there was absolutely no feeling that we needed to use a "supported" system. Most any parts in a source system is exchangable at any point. In package systems its different, there are so many illogical dependencies and difficulties that having a rolling system is almost impossible. You cant simply exchange any piece of software. There is a new distro now that wants to tackle that exact proble. It seems like a very interesting project. Manjaro GNU/Linux. |

If you can run Windows 98, Debian Woody or any other OS securely and efficiently then "Go you!". But you should also know why it is ridiculous to ask for help with it in a forum such as this. If you're an expert go and sort it. |
Greetins
usually if i have a problem updating firefox i just delete the entire Mozzila file but it deletes all the addons and bookmarks and passwords,,it starts freshh..but it works. |
the ./mozilla folder in your home folder
is not the firefox install it is only your settings and bookmarks and add on settings and user only installed add ons firefox is installed to /usr/bin /usr/lib /usr/lib/browser-plugins /usr/share/firefox unless you manually installed the prebuilt like the 64 bit FF24 https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....-x86_64/en-US/ then it is all in one place |
