finding the best linux distro
 

iam having alot of problems getting ubuntu running with my video card.its the 82845g which alot of people seem to have problems with also.since i cant figure out how too fix it,is there another linux distro that will run on my video card without needing too configure it?thanks

I expect most distros to have about the same support for video devices. Care to specify your issues with the card in question?

the problem i was having was that the refresh rate was off,also when i tried too set it too 1024x768 it would lock up the desktop.i tried other settings on it but still wouldnt work.it was saying my sony monitor was a 16" monitor when its a 19".i read other people got it setup right but it just wasnt working for me.here is my xorg.conf file details:

iam installing debian in vmware so ill try that next on it.

So you are installing in vmware? You should have mentioned that. If you want decent graphics, then you need to install vmware-tools.

i actually installed ubuntu using the windows installer so i had it dual booting like that.i just tried installing it in vmware to see if it would make a difference.i finished installing debian on it and for some reason the graphics are fine.(no need to adjust video settings)iam going back too dual booting ubuntu,and will try your method too see what happens.its kinda slow when i run it through vmware cause i dont have enough ram.ill let you know what happens in about 30mins once its finished.

hey,i got it working in 800x600 but that was it.i think i might wait until i get a more compatible video driver before i try again.thanks for the help though.
