Finding dot clock/bandwidth(?) of graphics card...
 

Being a new user of Linux I'm having a little bother fine tuning my installation of SuSE 8.1.

Is there any way of detecting the dot clock of my graphics card, or at least what Linux *thinks* it is?

I'm using an nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 chipset with updated nVidia drivers but I need a way of finding out whether it's been configured correctly. Any help is much appreciated.

IIRC starting X in verbose mode (--logverbose 9) should provide you with the info, or Google the web for an app called nvclock.

I'm not sure what 'verbose mode' is (is this the SuSE ver. of text-only mode in Sax2?) but nevertheless I managed to dig out a log file for the X server and found what I was looking for. Unfortunately, even though I am pleased that it shows I have configured everything correctly I'm back to square one with regards to setting my monitor refresh rate higher. Does anyone have any experience with this?

By the way, could someone explain what 'IIRC' means?
