FINALLY got a distro working. Small issues, bluetooth kbd/mouse, audigy, HP
I've FINALLY got Kubuntu working well, so I would like to look into the other little issues now.
1) Bluetooth. I have an MX5000 Keyboard and MX1000 mouse running the bluetooth receiver in HCI mode Is there a way to make the media buttons on my keyboard work? I've already gotten the back and forward buttons on my mouse working. Is there a way to make the scroll left and right work? How about the auto scroll (cruse)? How about the task switcher button? When I tried Ubuntu I kept getting obex server errors. I would like to know why even though I got frustrated with Gnome and switched to Kubuntu. 2) HP OfficeJet 7310. I've got HP LIP working well and it will print and all. What I'm looking for, and I think I've asked about this before, is an application like FinePrint where I can easily enable the duplexer and see, order and delete pages in a "print preview" sort of view. Along with allowing me to print two, three, four pages on one, folding books..etc. 3) I have a Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum ZS. Is there any way to get it's features working? It has THX and Dolby, and all sorts of them. I would like to have them if I can. However the two features that I need to use are these: ---------------Equalizer: I miss having a system wide equalizer ---------------"What you hear": In windows the drivers came with a what you hear feature. Where I could plug something into line in and hear it. I plug my FM radio, XM, tape player, record player..etc though my sound card. Basically I want my line in port "active" all the time. Or I can create a script to activate it when I want to listen. Bonus Question. In ubuntu I could set it up so I could log in automatically on system boot. How do I do that in Kubuntu? Ubuntu also had much nicer gui fading effects. I would like them in kubuntu whenaver my password is asked for or the shutdown dialog is open. This is more vain and stupid, but fun. |
Media buttons... you have to manually assign them in kubuntu.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=174274 Mouse buttons https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ManyButtonsMouseHowto Obex server: this is quite an old problem, which kubuntu are you using? http://osdir.com/ml/gnome.apps.bluet.../msg00002.html https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ooth/+bug/2363 Fineprint effect in linux? http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/sh...d.php?t=568931 http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/lin...der-linux.html ... that would be a "no". In linux, all print documents are in post-script until sent to the printer. There are a great number of postscript filters available on CLI. Usually the geek specifies the job and writes a short script. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=244715 ... an example of the kind of thing you can do. BUT: LQ has a page dedicated to Linux equivalents: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...ndows_software ... under "fineprint" it lists 5 alternates. Check them out. Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum ZS http://geekscape.org/daisy/geekscape/105.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=466286 http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...y-2-zs-337513/ I think that's spotty - though I understand that creative labs have some linux drivers. http://opensource.creative.com/soundcard.html |

In general, Ubuntu gets the bulk of the support. Kubuntu Guide: http://www.kubuntuguide.org/Gutsy |
Thanks!
As to the obex error. I have Ubuntu and Kubuntu gutsy. I only get it in Ubuntu. Kubuntu works fine with my keyboard and mouse, it just doesn't like my headset and other things. So I take it fine print is out. I'll just print big stuff in a virtualbox xp I guess. As to the creative labs drivers. I've gotten line in to work now. All I need is a global equalizer. I take it that making anything else work (that I don't really need anyway) isn't going to happen. I'll try klineak and the howto when Kubuntu is up again. I keep having to reinstall and didn't make any changes! |
