FILESYSTEM WILL NOT BOOT =[ (will PAY for help)

So after a few weeks of using Mandrake Linux 10.1, my filesystem will NOT boot. I cant get into the gui and I have no clue what to do.... this seems like a long process so if there is ANYONE who is in Houston TX, I will PAY YOU to help me fix this.

If you can help me, email me @ Moroni.Chen@energy.sungard.com

why don't you give more details about your problem, error messages, etc, in order for us to try to help you, and if you still want to "pay" donate your money to LinuxQuestions or any other open-source project.

Or contact your nearest LUG ( Linux User Group ) - use google if you dont know - and see if anyone there can help you, might cost you a pizza and some coke and you might make some new friends.

failing that, give us more details about the specs of your system, and any thing that might help like did this happen just after a power cut or thunderstorm etc

Im not sure exactly what the error message is... all I know is ive tried booting it a few times and on all times its failed. I cant exactly take a screen shot of the error, but i will take pictures of it with my digital camera... ill post soon.

For the mean time, my offer is still up. Anyone in Houston looking for some extra money email me. I have about 100 gigs of files on the system which I cant get to, 6 of which is vital to my business. I have close to 11 months worth of source code on there so if ANYONE could HELP (yes I said Help. Not throw sarcastic comments about how I broke some by laws in your secret little club).

Screen shots of the error to come soon.

smartergod 05-27-2005 10:02 AM

And no. This isnt after a thunderstorm of any kind. Either way I have a UPS that backs it up to 2 hours..

Then why don't you find out?

recovering/getting back the data is relatively easy. Download/buy a Knoppix cd and boot that and you will be able to mount the drive and then copy off any vital files. You can also examine the /var/log/message or syslog to find out what has gone wrong.

Wow. You radiate with so much wisdom and experience! Tell me sir, how did you acquire such
infinite wisdom? Don’t answer that. Its rhetoric.

smartergod -- I sympathize with your plight, but advertising (which would include paid gigs) is not permitted in the LQ forums. This policy (along with the other site rules) is clearly spelled out during the registration process, and I will need to report this thread for closure.

Regarding the issue at hand, the suggestions that have already been recommended are good ones; good luck with the data recovery. -- J.W.

hmm..

ok, first, that link that the person posted about the smart questions i dont think was an insult. the more efficient and detailed a question/problem that you post, the more help and response you will recieve. theres tutorials on asking smart question here on LQ.org too, its not just some joke or something.

next, you said: "....this seems like a long process so...."
what seems like a long process? to get something to work it will take longer than just booting a computer. you said you have vital source code that needs to be recovered, this tells me that maybe your a programmer? if a programmer doesnt have patience and cant use trial and error, they arent a programmer. if not a programmer, i would assume maybe your an admin or something? after all, why would this vital data be on your pc? if an admin, etc etc.. sorry im not bashing on you but it probably sounds like it. :) (btw, i hope you didnt mean that the 11months of programming = 6gb of source code :p)

what happens when u turn on the computer and after it displays the list of services starting and other messages.. does it hault? as you said youll be getting a picture of it or something, that would work, or just write down the messages you recieve, would help also, and you would probably learn more that way, if thats what you want.

like someone said, download a live cd (Knoppix or if you need it fast [< 50mb download] DSL/Damn Small linux is good as well). if this route, we can guide you if you need help with mounting it and recovering what you need.
