Files with little locks above them

I copied the contents of a disc into my music folder, and now, all the files have locks above them. I can't move them (access denied). I can see their contents, but that's it. I can't add anything to them, so I guess you can see my problem, so if you know how to unlock them, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Open a terminal window and enter "su" to become root. Now you can view and change all the permissions and ownership using "chmod" and "chown".

Depending on which version of Linux you are using, there may be a GUI tool for this---somewhere in your menus.

Ahh, can you give me an example, and I'm using Ubuntu if that helps any. I have no idea on how either of those commands work.

turns out there's a permissions tab in properties (gnome), so I got it, I did check out the chmod command and I learned a few things, thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
