Files not shown in Sansa Clip mp3 player

This is a weird one...

I have a Sansa Clip+ portable mp3 player. I wanted to get some files
from it - connected it via its USB link to several PCs running
SolydX Linux( 201607 and 201701 ). It does mount the device
and show the folders....but does not show the files in those folders!

There are 8 files there - I know because I listen to them regularly..
they are all .flac format. Yet, when I open the MUSIC folder ( where
they are located ) ...nothing shows. a "df" command in terminal
shows that the space is used ( 772MB out of 1.9GB).

I tried this is three machines, and also in another version of Linux ( Puppy )
with the same result.

The files do show in the one Windows 7 PC I have access to, but my goal
is to "move away from" Linux...

Any suggestions? Someone else must have run across this issue...

Thank you,

The clip has an auto detect connection mode so Linux would use MSC I.e. Mass storage and windows would use MTP. Files written in one mode are not seen in the other.

To see the files you need to:
Switch to MTP or connect to a Windows box
Copy the files to the computer
Switch to MSC or connect back to Linux
Copy the files back to the clip

Problem solved - I think

Hi michaelk,

right on the money!
I switched the player to MTP mode.
and the files show up in Linux.
Since Linux can detect in this mode, is there any
real reason to switch back to MSC?

I assume I can ( and will try later ) transfer files
in wither direction in MTP mode?

thanks much!

I prefer MSC since the player appears like a flash drive and not dependent on distribution/version, libmtp, kernel support etc
