File synchronization b/w 2 computers

I'm using linux on 2 PC, in my university and home. I usually transfer files between those two through FTP, but it starts to bother me when I'm working with lots of files under several directories. Is there any way to keep files between these 2 location synchronized without having to copy and delete everything. Is there anything in linux that works like Briefcase in Windows?

Just for further info, I'm using GNOME desktop env. Thanks..

Thanks a lot! I haven't tried this thing, but I've read the docs, and it seems this should solve the problem. (Plus it can work multi-platform as well, great!)
