Question File size limit exceeded with Samba mount

I've tried everything I could with respect to what I read in previous posts. I have RHE 3.8. I have verified that there are no limits imposed (looked in limits.conf and did ulimit -a). I am logged in as root. I am sharing a folder on my XP system to the Linux system.

I mounted by:
smbmount //ip_addr/sharename /windows_share -o username=administrator,lfs

I have tried using the mv command to move it. I also tried using:
dd if=file of=/windows_share/filename bs=4096 conv=notrunc,noerror

target disk is NTFS.
source file is approx 3GB which I created between two linux boxes using dd and netcat. (I'm backing up a partition)

In all my tries I am getting File size limit exceeded. This happens when the transfer is at 2GB.

I also tried a different disk on the target which I had newly formatted as ntfs with blocksize 4096.

Your help is appreciated.

There are rumors that using cifs instead of smbfs helps resolving large file issues.

Instead of using smbmount try

mount -t cifs //ip...
