Question File Sharing With Windows Computers

Would i have to configure samba on my computer in order to engage in file sharing with Windows systems. If so do any of you have any tips, sugggestions, or links to good tutorials?

There's lots of info on this site - usually the default options will work fine but in most environments I would suggest enabling "local master = yes" and settign the os level to 65.

What linux distro are you using? Redhat 9.0 had samba configured automatically while for redhat 8.0 I had to write a smb.conf file and put it in /etc. There is a default one that you have to modify to reflect your system. After I got samba running all I had to do was go in my file browser and type in smb:// to see windows shares. That was for the nautilius browser that comes with gnome. For the konqueror browser I had to use smb://'hostname/ipaddress'.
