File sharing like rapidshare...
I was wondering is there a way to do file hosting or share a file. I have this edited video clip that I'm trying to share with another individual across the states and I just want to send him a email so all he/she would have to do is click the link and the file would start downloading. I know there are rapidshare/filesvr/megauploads etc. but I would like to do this through my ubuntu installation.
thanks in advance |
I've never tried it myself, but I came across this a while ago: woof

woof ... WTF??
It's wonderful:) Thanks for that link! |
I see there are a couple more options mentioned in the comment section too. webfs and nearshare. The last one appears to be a java applet hosted on the web, meaning you don't even need to install anything.
In addition, I just found weblink, and a companion inverse program called droopy that allows you to open up a directory for temporary uploading to. |
what i usually do is start httpd and put the file somewhere the web server can read from and send a link in an email.
just remember you have to leave the server on until they download the file. |

I tried it, and thought "Perfect. Brilliant: Small, sensible, understandable, and does exactly what it says on the box". Just what I didn't know I needed, but now I'll use it". |
