File share permissions

Hi all,

I have Windows XP workgroup with a RedHat 8.0 box as a file server. All users are on XP Pro.

I set up a Linux folder and shared it out to myself and read access to others. I would like some users to be able to create and change docs but not all of them.

These XP machines are in a workgroup and share the same login credentials. I dont want to give all users a seperate local account on the XP machines.

I would like to set this share up so a dialog box would appear that would allow users to enter the credetials of a user that has access to this Linux share but I just get "access denied" no dialog box.

Is this possible?

You can try setting the permissions on your RH server so that certain users in certain groups have the level of rights your'e looking for. In Linux go to System Settings->Users and Groups and check out the group numbers that are assigned to your users. I believe you can put users in the same groups, or have them share the rights of other groups. As far as your dialog box, there is a default mesaage box that pops up when you try to get into a directory you do not have permission to use.
