file permissions for snare in ubuntu

hello,

i have recently started up a trial version of snare. The server portion of the program is installed on it's own ubuntu (ubuntu is loaded during the install right from the cd.) There is an office and a test segment at my office with different internet access permissions so i needed to switch segments after finishing the install and activation, but when i switched the IP address through network (in the GUI) i couldn't connect to anything. After digging around in the terminal a bit i used ifconfig and noticed that the IP segment did not switch for the broadcast address on eth0. I found the eth0 file in /etc/network/interfaces but it is marked as read only. Is there another way to change the broadcast through the GUI or else how do i change the permissinos from read only to read-write in the terminal(what is the syntax)?

thanks
