File permissions

My filepremissions got screwed up. All of sudden I can't move or copy files anymore as an user. That applies so far to .zip and .txt files that I dl'ed yesterday.
Stuff that I downloaded today is ok. I haven't been anywhere close to change any permissions in that time. Anybody has an idea what is going on with that box?
