file association
 

Hello All:

I used to be able to read conf files w/ Konqueror while in GUI, but now for some Godawful reason the files default to KWrite even when I access them through Konqueror. I don't like KWrite, and would rather use something else.

So, how can I disassociate KWrite from opening text files in Konqueror? If I can use Konqueror, (or Mozilla, or Netscape, or even OpenOffice), how would I impletment the switch of apps. Or just go back to the default.

Go into Control Center -> KDE components -> file associations -> text
and change the relevent Application Preference Order.

Thanks for the info, but I looked Control Center and there was nothing indicating that KWrite was associated w/ text files. Could it be a symlink I created, and if so, how would I check (is this the same as an association?
What I do know is that KWrite isn't what I'd like to see when a text document is opened.
So, how do I set another app to open a text document?

hi

on the top right you will have a box which says

+text - click on that and click plain

or

"Find filename pattern"

type txt

you got it

click on embedded tab

click on show files in embedded viewer and click apply on bottom right

works?

So I highlight KWord and then click Remove and then click apply, right?

If so then I'm left w/ embedded KDE Advanced Text Editor Component. And, checking to see if I can browse to add another application, I see that I can't. So how would I add something like OpenOffice Writer as a default text viewer?

you were talking about text files before. just click add and point it to oowriter in the general tab. read the kde documentation please

Thanks for the info. However, I just previously have zapped my .kde file in /home/username, and now it seems that OpenOffice has gone somewhere hence. It doesn't appear when I click on the K in KPanel.
So I'll have to either find OO or reinstall it before making the appropiate association.
