Fiesty Problem? Sound on internet but not on movie player.

As the title says, I am able to get sound through youtube and other websites but not through movie player, VLC, or Elisa. This leads me to believe its not a sounds card/drivers issue?

I know very little about linux, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its a little problem where you can play sound from one source at a time. I had that issue to in kubuntu. I followed this guide and everything started to work perfectly. I actually have to do this again since I had to reinstall kubuntu. If you run into any problems post and I will help as much as I can but I don't know much either still a newb.
