fetchmailrc problem

Hey,

I'm in the middle of trying to get pine working, and from doing some searchin around I found out I need to create a file called

~./fetchmailrc

so I create that using pico, and type in this

poll pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com proto POP3 fetchall

BUT, when I try to save it pico says this: "Cannot open file for writing: No such file or directory." If I take out the tilde sign and save as just ./fetchmailrc, then I can save, but my fetchmail doesn't work. Can someone help me out with this, I'm at a loss as to what the significance of the tilde sign is.

If i'm going about using pine all wrong please let me know. I've set up pine to the best of my knowledge, but I don't understand why there is no setting for pop3 in pine.

yeah, but even if I try it as root I get a no such file or directory error I guess I should look for a place to download that and maybe try it again.
