Fedora7 livecd does not work

I have been attempting to use the Fedora7 livecd that I have both downloaded, and obtained from a book.

The message is always the same:

irq 17 nobody cared try booting with the IRQ poll option
acpi no DMI
no fstab.sys, mounting internal defaults

mpthing much further happpens. I have tried adding both "irqpoll" and "linux irqpoll" to the end of the command line obtained by pressing the TAB from the linux boot menu.

Any suggestions as to how to make use of the livecd? I am using a 2005 Windows Media Center Edition operating system.

The operating system you currently use has no effect on the livecd

Narrowing the solution

Good to know it's nothing to do with the operating system.

How can I narrow down the problem and solution? Any suggestions as to what is happening on my computer that makes the livecd uninstallable?

Well it would help if you told us your hardware

I would like to get the livecd working on this computer before I consider installing Fedora Core 7 on this dual boot system. I am assuming if I difficulty getting the Fedora Core live to function from the cdrom, I would have the same problems if the program were installed.

What is the function of grub on the livecd? Does it use a mbr from the cd? If I get information about grub, does this information also apply to the livecd?

grub is a boot loader for installed operating systems, the livecd uses isolinux boot loader, grub does not do anything in the livecd. The Boot prompt is different then the grub prompt

Thanks for the info on grub.

I would like to know if this is an isolated hardware problem - what is there about my hardware that uniquely causes the livecd installation to go off the rails?

At what stage of the boot loading process does the crash occur?

By pressing TAB from the linux boot menu I can get a command line with a very long list of parameters (almost two lines) This seems very patchy to me. Is there any other way to get a good, clean command line from the linux boot?

Can you get any other livecds to boot?

Yes, Ubuntu 6.06
