Fedora Xterm
 

I was trying to install my wireless card on my Fedora Core 6 laptop and I rebooted. Now I automatically get logged into an Xterm session instead of the gnome desktop environment. What gives? Any help is much appreciated as to how I can get my gnome desktop back.

Have you tried issuing the command ? or maybe telling it followed by the startx command ?

Gotta be worth a try.

When you say you got an XTerm session, do you mean that when you logged in at the graphical login screen it gave you just an XTerm instead of Gnome? Or do you mean that you just had a non-gui terminal?

If it was the first, then you probably could have clicked the "Sessions" menu on the login scree, and selected Gnome.

You almost never have to reinstall Linux, and you learn a lot more by fixing the problem than just reinstalling. In many cases, the problem will reassert iteslf after you reinstall because you will make the same mistake again. Also, reinstalling can take a lot longer than using your brain and fixing the problem...
