Question Fedora updater killing net connection

Hi, I've just finished installing Fedora 9 and the updater is now running. Problem is that it's soaking up all my inet bandwidth and the rest of my family is screaming at me to turn it off.

I don't know how far it has to go or if it will have to start from scratch again if I pull the plug/shutdown.

Can I throttle it? How?

You should have got a more up to date respin.

The original can easily take ~2GB + to be up-to-date

No it will not need to start from scratch...the downloaded packages will be in /var/cache/yum/...

Not sure if you can throttle it, but you can disable it by going to System Main Menu > Preferences > Personal > Sessions and un-ticking Packagekit. It's better this way and check for updates manually either using yum or a GUI frontend to it called Yumex instead of letting it do at every boot and all.
