Fedora Private Network/Server

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to Linux and am trying to set up a kind of home network using Linux. What I hope to achieve is make it so that all of my computers in my house all have a central location for both logins and file space. My computers that I have are 3 laptops running Win XP Pro, 2 laptops running Vista Ultimate, 1 desktop running Vista Ultimate, and 1 desktop running XP Pro. So there aren't a whole lot of computers but more than I like all sitting on a Microsoft Workgroup.

I have Fedora Core 5 currently installed and have been trying to get accustomed to that but it definitely does take some getting used to. I have thought of upgrading to Fedora 7 or even waiting the few weeks to 8 but if everyone thinks I can do what I want with 5 I'll stick with that. So how can I configure all of this?

Some step-by-step instructions would be great or some links to a full How-To would be great too!

Thanks for any help you can give me!!

-Jeff

You should read up on Samba, it's well documented. http://us1.samba.org/samba/ It probably won't matter which Fedora version you use, what matters is the samba version. File sharing will be easy, can't comment on PDC role as I haven't tried it.
