Fedora Printer Problem: Brother Laser Printer drops the first one or two centimeters

Hi,

maybe someone can help me with this problem: I use Fedora (but I had that problem with RH9, too) and printing with my Brother HL 1030 laser printer does not work perfectly. The hole "image" is shifted about one or two centimeters to the top of the page. This means that[list=1][*]the very first lines are not printed at all (due to the physical margins of the printer, I guess) [*]at the bottom of the paper, the margin looks definitely too large[/list=1]

The file
Code:

/etc/cups/ppd/HL-1030.ppd
seems suspicous to me. (I used this name in the installation. There is a section called "imagable area". Maybe it has to do with that:

Code:

*DefaultImageableArea: A4
*ImageableArea Letter/US Letter: "0 0 612 792"
*ImageableArea A4/A4: "0 0 595 842"
*ImageableArea 11x17/11x17: "0 0 792 1224"
*ImageableArea A3/A3: "0 0 842 1191"
*ImageableArea A5/A5: "0 0 421 595"

I know nearly nothing about cups and printing with linux in general, so any help is very apreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Merlin

I am struggling with exactly the same problem in Mandrake 9.1 and HP DeskJet 9650.
If I find it out, I let you know.

no solution either..

Hi,

Overhere we got the same problem with a Brother DCP-330c. It's a multifunction inkt jet, so it is not just the lasers.

I found another post where someone got a solution. It did not work for me though, since I could not find the required settings:

At http://forums.linux-foundation.org/r...4,1224,quote=1 ,
Timm S. Müller wrote to have a look in
/usr/local/Brother/lpd/psconvert2 .

We run Kubuntu, and that specific location does not exist. "locate Brother|grep lpd" turned up /usr/local/Brother/Printer/dcp330c/lpd ; there I found psconvertij2 which sounds a bit the same. It does not have "shift_x_point and shift_y_point" (yet) though.

I'll be looking for more hints, and with no more results I will add those parameters and try anyway.

Good luck overhere!
