Fedora LocalHost Login
I just finished installing FC6 and now that I have rebooted its aksing me for a LocalHost Login. I remember setting up an admin password and an user account (username & pasword)but neither of these work on this login page.
Did I over look something during the installation process? Can someone direct me to a step by step resolution to this issue? Please be patient with me as I'm completely new to Linux but I'm willing and eager to learn. I really appreciate your help in advance. Thanks! :newbie: |
I tried root as the login and my root password as the password and it didnt work....I rebooted and it took me to the GUI login and I used my user login. I think the problem is gone for now.

fedora 6 'localhost login'
I am having a very similar problem. There are 2 login choices-fedora core(2.6.18-1.2798fc6xen) & fedora core-up(2.6.18-1.2709.fc6). The 1st choice sometimes goes to GUI login, sometimes to 'localhost login'. The 2nd choice goes only to 'localhost login'. I'm mystified too. ant

Those aren't login choices -- you're selecting which kernel to boot in the bootloader! The first kernel has Xen support and the second does not.
It sounds like sometimes X windows (the GUI) isn't starting correctly. You can type startx on the command line to start it. You can look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log to try to find the error. |
thankyou for your reply b.t.Miller,it was very helpful. I had disabled the fc6xen option in grub as it was a mystery to me. sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this post. The log location is especially helpful as I've had this 'no gui'login appear in several other distros;pclos'07;mepis6.5. still a newbie..still persevering..still chalenged..still enjoying!!
