Card reader stopped working (Only Power-Off fixes problem / not reboot!)

Hello,

I have several Linux clients; all clients are equipped with smart-card readers for authentication issues. Usually as soon as someone inputs a smart-card, a specific script is running and the user gets a windows login (Terminal Server)...

The problem is that on some of the clients, it happens, that sometimes the reader doesn't react.

On those clients, all processes are running, and even with a reboot that smart-card reader wouldn't work. Only with a Power-Off and power-on, the smart-card reader starts to work again.

(It is using the pcsc drivers for linux and the reader is scr331)

Did anybody experience a similar problem?
Or is it possible to reinitialise the smart-card reader without having to power-down the complete system?

Many Thanks and regards

Some additional Info: (Output of opensc tool)
Reader: SCR331 USB Smart Card Reader 00 (Built-in)
Reader drivers: pcsc/ctapi

I was seeing a similar problem with Fedora 8 which turns off power to my (external) D-Link USB hub when nothing is plugged into it. However, in my case, the hub does return to normal operation when I plug in a device (e.g., flash drive). You might try disabling the power-savings software. (I don't have access to my system at the moment, or I'd be able to give you more detailed instructions.)
