Fedora is not loading the GNOME Environment

I have just installed Linux Fedora 6 on my computer, followed all the installation instructions and one of the options was that of installing a GNome environment! When it booted for the first time it went into the BASH Command line and asked me for my username and password! I have reinstalled it for the third time but it keeps doing the same thing! Please help I still very new to Linux!

It seems that no did turn off the graphical login during installation, so you are obviously thrown at the terminal login prompt. Re-installing will not help, if you do it with the same settings. Even so, you should be able to login on the commandline, and then start X Windows (if installed at all) by typing
$ startx

Gnome is the default for Fedora, so it must be installed, unless you have accidentally unchecked it during install configuration.

Just FYI, F6 is no longer supported; try F10 or 11.

Also, if startx works, you set it permanently by setting '5' in the line marked initdef in the file /etc/inittab.
Its probably set to 3 atm.

fedora is not aimed ( it's target audience ) at the new user .
for starters there are NO drivers for nvidia cards and only a mim. one for ATI .No music/video codecs ,...
and not everything WILL work right , most of the time something MUST BE FIXED during the install or afterwards . updates often and do need to be "fixed" .

if you DO want to learn HOW TO FIX A LINUX opperating system then use fedora 10 or fedora 11.

But i would suggest you install Ubuntu , it is meant for the NEW *nix user.
