Fedora Host Login and Password

During new Fedora FC 6 install I entered a user name and password, but boot up is asking for name and password and the name I originally entered is not working.

Have had a suggestion to reset the root password. Anyone have a script I can use for that purpose?

Hello,

reboot and pass "init=/bin/sh" as arg to your kernel. You will gain root access without password prompt. Then remount / as read write and you can change your password using "passwd".

Login-Password

Oliv' (I hope this gets me to Oliv'?)

Thank you for your help to regain root access.

Problem is I don't know where to input that info(I'm still a newbie; Fedora is my first experience with Linux). The boot process ends with the login/password request and I entered init=/bin/sh but the original problem still persists. Fedora is still looking for the login/password request.

Perhaps I'm supposed to stop the boot sequence somewhere along the line?

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

During the installation you were probably asked for root password, and later, user name and password for your normal user. Try to log in as both (root+password, user+password). If it doesn't work, check with passwords switched.

Also, most recent distros do not allow you to log in as root by default. I don't know if Fedora is one of them, but try with normal user account.

Also, try Ctrl+Alt+F1. You should get a text mode login screen. Check the combinations also there.
