fedora crashes on starting wine and compiz

Hi all,
I am a newbie to linux. I just started using Fedora Core 8 in my hp dv9601 laptop with nvidia graphics card. Whenever I start compiz or wine, the system crashes and I get the login screen again. Also, the in-built desktop effects don't get enabled.

Could anyone please also tell how to run my in-built webcam on fedora.

Thanks in advance.

Check your nvidia drivers, they probably need to be reinstalled to match your kernel.
