Fedora Core 9 hangs after anacron.

Good Afternoon to All,

I need your help fixing my Fedora Core 9. I had to reboot the system which I thought(it was trying to install software for four days)was hanging up. After reboot the system hangs after starting
Anacron [ OK ].

I can ssh from a networked MS XP Pro and startx. I can than use the system under a graphical environment.

I have;

Disconnect everything USB, Firewire or otherwise.

Leave only monitor, mouse and keyboard. If mouse and keyboard are USB, use good old PS2 models just for testing.I have often seen boot sequences hung on serial hardware detection.

Did you install a new card or peripheral in the last couple of days?

Also. Can you choose to load "failsafe mode" when the bootmanager screen shows up? If so, does it boot into gui or only Command line? If it boots from CLI can you "startx" from there?

Try all of these and report back.

Thanks for you reply. I have not installed new devices or peripherals. The system was installed with USB mouse and keyboard which worked from the start. It was also installed with a Matrox G45 dual port video card. Upon initial system reboot the video did not work. I removed the the card and connect cable to video on the motherboard. Everything work perfectly albeit I was disappointed I will not have dual monitors.

I have been working on this FC9 now for over a month and everything was working great. I started to install some required software needed for AvantFax from the add/remove software. I think my big mistake was that I selected several packages at the same time. I noticed that it was taking a while to finish. I let run from November 27 to Dec 1, when I returned to the office it appear to be hung up so I rebooted the system. my problems began after that, so here I am.

I will be changing the usb devices as you suggested after I complete this post. I will repost after reboot.

Thanks,

Ramon

Steel_J,

I changed to PS2 mouse and keyboard. I don't have access or I don't know how to do a failsafe boot from the menu.

This is a portion of my /var/log/message.

I see a couple of warnings. Do you have them in you r system?

Dec 3 17:54:44 Hermes pulseaudio[2342]: module.c: Failed to load module "module-x11-xsmp" (argument: ""): initialization failed.

I researched those errors and found this:

I found a better fix for this problem in Hardy than creating a link,
especially since I couldn't get the link to be created early enough to
play the Gnome startup sound. For any Hardy user who is having this
problem, try changing the line in /etc/pulse/default.pa that says:

load-module module-protocol-esound-unix

so that it says:

load-module module-protocol-esound-unix socket=/tmp/.esd/socket

This at least provides a temporary fix for the problem until a fix is
officially released for Hardy. A big thank-you goes out to the people in
the #pulseaudio IRC channel for this fix.
and applied a supposed fix but it did not work.

Please let me know what you think.

Kind Regards,

Ramon
