Question Fedora Core 6 installation issue

I am atempting to run Fedora Core 6 on laptop. It is a gateway. I was able to wipe the drive clean and only want to run linux on the system. I am using the installation guide in the Fedora Core 6 Unleashed book. When I put the DVD in it runs fine comes to the intilal boot window with the choices. I press enter to start in the graphic interface, however for some reason it wont start in the grafic interface it reverts back to the text install.

My first question is why will it not start in the grapic mode.

My next questioin Is that I went through the install in text mode and it installed fine however, when I reboot the system it asks me for a user name and password. I only have my root password and dont understand how to create a new user after siginign in using the root user. Also once I create a new user will this program boot up and have a desktop similiar to windows since it wont start in the graphic mode I am afraid that it wont.

THanks for any assistance provided
John

Q1. Doesn't matter why, the text-based installer is better and more intuitive anyway.

Q2. Enter whatever username you want to give yourself and make up a password. The system is trying to create a user account for you.

Q3. Yes it will have a desktop environment. Using the text-based installer doesn't prevent an X-windows system being installed.

If the Fedora installer can't match the video card it would default to a text mode installation.

red hat installation

THe installation is almost done, Thanks for the tip on add user in the rot menu that worked. I am still having issues withgetting the start x command to run. I am getting Fatal Server error I/O error 104 I think this is because I dont have the computer connected to the internet yet. THen I also get the following errors

1. (EE) I810(0): No Video Bios modes for chosen depth

2. (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

How do I fix these errors to get to see my desktop and finish the install

I am trying to get REDHAT FEDORA CORE 6 version of Linux to run.

I am running on a gateway Laptop what is the information that is most important to check.

Run "xorgconfig" as root console if you want to configure the GUI
