Fedora Core 4 Terminal Color

I have started using Fedora Core 4 and would like to use the Terminal but it gives me a yellow background and a blue border. I press CTRL ALT F1 and that is when I am getting the yellow background. I would like to change this so I have a black background and white font. Thanks for your help.

Pressing Ctl+Alt+F1 should bring you to the console, not a terminal.

I for one have never heard of this behavior. Either Fedora is a very special distro, you're not actually at the console, or "something's wrong." Do you get the same thing at all consoles, i.e., when pressing ctl-alt-f2, ctl-alt-f3, etc.? Is the normal login prompt there?

your right it brings me to a console but the background color is yellow and has a blue border around it for all of them. Any ideas?

/etc/DIR_COLORS is our leading candidate.

I have looked through both those files and can't seem to fine the spot to designate which color I want for the console. I see a lot of colors for dir files etc but not for that. I also followed those links you gave me and there are people that said it is DIR_COLORS but no follow up saying that really works.

This is apparently a Fedora (or RedHat) specific problem, and I'm on Debian so I can't experiment. I found this Gentoo thread though:
http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=65655

Sorry it's in German, but there is a relevant part with output of the DIR_COLORS file:
Code:
# COLOR needs one of these arguments: 'tty' colorizes output to ttys, but not
# pipes. 'all' adds color characters to all output. 'none' shuts colorization
# off.
COLOR tty
That seems like an important line.

I may be misleading you here though. This is getting to be a bit much reading for me, but check out this article:
http://www.linuxgazette.com/node/8381

I still haven't read yet whether this specifically affects the console.

You might also want to check this out while you're having console fun:

Thanks for your help.

I changed the settings in DIR_COLORS.xterm

where it is listed as

COLOR tty
I changed it to
COLOR none

and rebooted. That took the color away.

Awesome!

I was getting a headache trying to figure out whether that file would change tty behavior. lol
