Unhappy Fedora Core 4:Install In USB Hard Drive Hangs when Hardware is probed

I am (attempting at least) installing FC4 64Bit in a USB Hard Drive connected to A Compaq R4000 Laptop. If I install with the USB hard drive connected the Install hangs during the hardware probe. If I disable the probe with the "linux noprobe" option it hangs on the Media test screen as if the keyboard was disabled. If I disconnect the USB hard drive from the machine then the install is able to continue and I can check the Media and that passes.

The computer has a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor and 1 gig of ram
The USB hard drive consist of a maxtor 200 gig hard drive in an adaptec acs-200 enclosure

Thanks for any help.

What I am trying to do

I am trying to Install Fedora Core 4 64 bit onto a USB Hard Drive.

I have done some testing to try and figure out the problem.

Condition 1: USB Hard Drive is connected and I run through the Install procedure like normal.

Results : The Install program Hangs durring the Hardware Probe phaze.

Condition 2 : USB Hard Drive is connected and I Use the "Linux noprobe" option.

Results : The Install program continues until the Screen that askes if you would like to test your media and hangs there like the keyboard is locked out

Condition 3 : I diconnected the USB Hard Drive and ran the install program.

Results : The Install program continues all the way to the Disk Druid Where of course the USB Hard Drive does not show up. I am also able to test the DVD Media I am installing from as well.

I beleive That there is some conflict of some sort with the USB Hard Drive

I am Trying to install it on a USB Hard Drive so as to not Interfere with the XP partition on the internal hard drive

I have a compaq R4000 Laptop with AMD Athlon 64 with 1 gig of ram
The USB Hard Drive is a Maxtor 200 Gig Inside a Adaptec ACS-200 Enclosure.

Thank You for Replying and Thanks for any help you may be able to give me.
