Fedora Core 1 and sound card issues
 

are there any know issues with Fedora Project 1 and an integrated sound card from via technologies......I have sound but its choppy when viewing things like flash movie, and when playing mp3's they are sped up...and slightly distorted...is there any suggestions??? Ideas??? things that I could do.....I am a noob

what card is it, and, are you using alsa? the reason i ask is that many of the cards used w/alsa have some tips and tricks to get the most out of the card on the alsa page for the cards configuration, however, it's very card specific.

alas not actually I have been trying to figure out exactly which sound card I have from Via. I know its integrated. The funny thing is that when I booted into KDE I found the hardware browser and it said that it had no iformation about my sound card. Plus like I said I am a noobie and I have been having some issues with compiling the files from alas. I think I am just going to buy a new sound card.....any ideas on something that will be easy to install?

to find out what card you have from a terminal type

To kind of recap. I have VT82c686 integrated audio card. When I finished my install I noticed that my sound was very fuzzy and low with XMMS and also after I installed Flash the flash websites came across really bad. I couldn't evne understand what they were saying. So I did some research and I found that you can add the dxs_support=3 to one of the lines in /etc/modprobe.conf
"include /etc/modprobe.conf.dist
alias eth0 natsemi
options snd-via82xx dxs_support=3"
Now sound sounds better with XMMS its not so fuzzy and trebbel-fied. BUT the sound is faster....A song is sped up at least 2 times from its normal rate, and Flash sites still do not work. I was going to reinstall the sound card and update the kernel from the information I got from the ALSA website http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrm...#configurealsa
I am waiting till I have a good long day to sit and work with it through cause it looks pretty intensive. Hopefully this information will help you out.

to explain a bit, the name of the card or motherboard chipset doesn't always identify the actual chipset of onboard cards. the list pci command, i.e. /sbin/lspci -v, lists the actual chipsets, so your card is actually an avance logic chipset. hope that helps, and makes sense.
