Fedora and GRUB Error 17

I'm installing FC5 on another system with 2 IDE disks and one SATA disk. I am using Acronis OS Selector 5 but I am getting a GRUB Error 17 message, Fedora is installed on the 2nd IDE disk. Do I create a new MBR on my master disk and point GRUB to /hdd2?

EDIT: Hmm, just donw the above and Fedora is telling me no packages were installedn and so no changes to boot record will be made.

Thats the exact problem I was having. I noted how I fixed it in that thread.

Will I get any problems if I reformat my master disk and install FC5 on there and have XP on a slave?

You'll probably have the same problem, the error seems to come from where the Grub loader is loaded onto the hard drive. As I said in my other post. When I chose the advanced tab, and chose to install it in the MBR, it worked fine..

Hmmm, reinstalled and now there is no grub.

You have said in your first post that you are using Acronis OS Selector 5 which I take it as a 3rd party boot loader.

A 3rd party boot loader will work if you put Grub inside the root partition of FC5 and arrange this 3rd party boot loader to boot the root partition directly.

If you want to use Grub then you need to put it in the MBR. This will overwrite Acronis OS Selector 5.

So make a decision and stick with one boot loader. I don't use Acronis OS Selector 5 so couldn't offer any help on that front but Grub is the easiest and most powerful boot loader on this planet.
