Talking Fedora 9 or Fedora 9 (64bit)

Hello all,

I am about to upgrade my server and I have a few choices. I definitley want a Fedora distro but there is a "Fedora 9" or a "Fedora 9(64bit)". Is there a performance difference for these to be used as a web server??!

As you can see I am looking for extra scraps of performance for no extra costs!

Thanks all

On the whole, not much unless you have at least 4GB. In a few areas, however, 64 bit is a lot faster. For example, I saw some Ubuntu benchmarks the other day that showed that 64 bit does SSL more than twice as fast as the 32 bit version. Databases and multimedia are another area where 64 bit shines although the margin is definitely not 100% in these cases. But as I said, these are exceptions, as a rule the difference is only 10 to 20 % and sometimes there is no difference at all.

Thanks for the reply Jay and useful info.

I am only getting 2GB of ram, but I'll still get a 64bit version, and in time increase the RAM and then I may notice some difference!!
