Fedora 8 goes to Command prompt and donot shut down normally
Hi,
I Installed Fedora 8 but it goes to Command prompt instead of normal Screen. When I login to Root and write Startx it works normally, but it do not provide shutwon icon. I write command Shutdown now , but it shows folloing sh-3.2 # INIT: Sending Processes the TERM Signal I wait long but have to shut down manualy. Can anybody tell me is installation wrong ? how it will work normally Regards |
Edit the file /etc/inittab (as root) and set this line
id:5:initdefault: you've prob got a 3 instead of the 5. Then reboot and you should get the GUI. The shutown options are in the menus: System->Shutdown |
also depending on your hardware the fedora installer may have ran in "text only " without the gui.
this would happen if there is VERY little ram 256 or NO graphics card and a very bad built-in chip set . so what is your system? a laptop ? is it new ? is it less than $500 US or more than %1500 us? a desktop new or older than 8 years old ? was it a $500 us bare bones or a $ 4,000 quad core with dual Nvidia cards ? some system specs will be helpful . |
