Fedora 7 installed. Boot up shows two OS to select from

Hi,
I installed Fedora 7. After installation, once I rebooted the system, I saw two OS to select from.
1. Fedora
2. Fedora-base

I selected the Fedora & went on to register the username & password.
Once I registered, I got a blank screen and the the system was in that state for more than 15 minutes. So, I restared the system & selected Fedora-base. Here the sytem came up properly & I could log-in & work with it.

What are the two OS for & how different are they?

I've tries seversl distros which do the same thing: install one distro, but show two versions of the same distro in the grub menu.

One has a kernel compiled for full hardware detection and services started on boot.

The second is a reduced set of the first, with minimun hardware detection and minimum services started on boot. It's a failsafe mode used to make repairs in case the first one fails to boot.

Thank you for the reply.
In case of Fedora 7, the first version "Fedora" doesnot boot up completely. It shows me a blank screen after displaying some of the names of the things that get initialiazed. Does it mean, the installation has gone bad for this version. And also do you mean that the version "Fedora-base" is a reduced set of the OS.
