I think I have found root of the problem

I tried "linux acpi=off" and I was able to get pass the hang....but when prompted for location of packages to install, linux did not recognize my dvd/cd drive......so I am going to try install over http...I have apache running on another machine......then I found http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=134326
which confirms it. I'll let you know how it goes....

Thumbs up

So I got linux running....

- At boot prompt: "linux acpi=off" <ENTER> this however make usb mouse unusable. I needed to swap out for ps/2 mouse.
- On another machine, running apache , I copied fedora live cd on network accessible dir
- installed linux via http onto target machine
- works fine...now to get the usb mouse working.....
