Fedora 5 - dual boot, hardware issues (ethernet/sound)

I'm new to Linux in general. Bought a book, it came with Fedora Core Release 5. I'm using an hp pavillion dv9700 series laptop. I have it set up to dual boot (Vista/ or Fedora 5).

In Fedora 5, it does not see my ethernet card, and when I try adding one it doesnt' work. It also does not recognize/work with my sound card.

Hi

It could be because your machine has special hardware, but most likely because you are using an old version of Fedora. You should try one of the never versions (eight or nine) which can be downloaded and burned to DVD free of charge at http://fedoraproject.org. Keep in mind that Fedora 9 is kind of experimental, so if you like something stable which won't be as likely to crash, try fedora 8.

If you do have special hardware, it might be that there are no drivers available for Linux because most hardware manufacturers do not bother making Linux versions. If you're lucky, there might be free Linux drivers as well.

Just gotta grab a blank dvd today and I'm gonna try Fedora 8. Thanks!
