Fedora 4 to 7 update

I am using Fedora 4. Can I update directly to Fedora 7? Or do I need to update to 5 and then to 6 before I go to 7?

Also, where do I get the CDs or DVD disks?

One more thing: We are talking update; not a clean install where I lose files I am using in Fedora 4?

You're a little early, as Fedora Core 7 won't be available for 6-9 months. Assuming you mean FC6, yes, you can update in place.

Some things to keep in mind:

- An update only updates existing software, it does not install new software. However you can add what you want after the upgrade.

- Upgrades can have problems with software installed from third-party repositories, since dependencies for those packages can't be handled properly. The recommendation is to remove third-party rpms and re-install the versions compatible with the new release.

Thats exactly what I would recommend. I know my experience is different from alot of folks here, but I've never had luck "upgrading" an OS. Linux, Windows, whatever. Its either slower than christmas, get wierd errors, some software works after the upgrade, some doesn't, etc.

To me its much easier to just back up all critical files to a external source, and do a clean install.
