fedora 3 disk usb not been recognize
Hello, I have a system IBM Server running the OS Fedora 3. Once rebooted it will recognize my USB Iomega external drive and ran the backup script without any problem; but right after the second day it doesn't show anymore, when you do #fdisk -l, I did check the /etc/fstab and the "/dev/sdc1 /media/usbdisk ext3 pamconsole, exec, noauto,m" it doesn't display no more. When I list the module loaded it show the UHCI_HCD and EHCI_HCD. I tried to reload the module and it doesn't respond [modprobe -r ehci_hcd ). We tried also to plug it at the front and back of the server with the same effect.
Could you please help me |
1 does the disk still work anywhere else?
what does dmesg give you when you plug in the disk and 2 why are you still using Fedora core 3 when the latest is fedora 9 the chances are that a newer vesion wont have the problems, also AFAIK FC3 is no longer supported meany any security holes wont get fixed and i belive quite a big onw was found a month or 2 ago so if its possable to upgrade i would suggest that |
Thank you for your prompt response,
1-) I have nothing in particular in dmesg about the USB drive when we plug it or unpluged 2-) Unfortunately the Upgrade is not possible to change FC3 to FC9. You are right, maybe the new version won't have this issue. Is there anything else that I could do in order to solve this problem ? How can I reload the module, just by doing a shutdown ? or I won't have any other choice but install a new version of Linux with a new kernell |
