fedora 2 newbie needs help
I am actually a newbie to the entire linux scene, using windows all of my computing needs. I now want to learn ad try something new and linux seems very promising. I am tryin to install fedora core 2 on my pc but while the processes are starting, one called reahead fails and I get an error saying that it cannot start x server. Then, I try startx at the bash prompt but it comes up
Fatal Server Error: no sceens found I can not seem to find any usefull help elsewhere. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Well, welcome to Linux and Linuxquestions.org then. Hope you like Linux. Just remember it can't do everything (yet), but other than that it's dependable, versatile and fun. while the processes are starting, one called reahead fails Readahead reads parts of files into memory. Check /var/log/messages for lines containing readahead. If there's any lines with readahead containing "EBADF" it means readahead couldnt read those files into memory. If it's not that, try and post any error messages about readahead, that could be helpful. and I get an error saying that it cannot start x server. Then, I try startx at the bash prompt but it comes up Fatal Server Error: no sceens found Meaning X isn't configured properly. Could be detection failed. Could be FC2 specific. FC1 is stable, there can still be issues with FC2. Where you able to use a graphical environment during install, or did it fail? In any case running "redhat-config-xfree86 -v --reconfig --noui -o /etc/X11/XF86Config" as root user will probe your hardware again, backup the old one and write a new config. If restarting still gives errrors, please post your XF86Config and /var/log/XFree86.*.log for ppl to help you. I can not seem to find any usefull help elsewhere. Posting threads is good, and you can tap into the experience of one million users by using the search function. *BTW, posting threads is good, but posting duplicates is not appreciated, it's against the LQ Rules. Please do not do that again. |
