Show us your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. On gnome3, effects are enabled by default if your drivers are supported. The open source drivers support your GPU, so they should be working. The fact that they aren't means that there's something wrong with your drivers.

Code:
(II) Module glx: vendor="FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc."
You still have at least part of the proprietary fglrx/catalyst driver installed. Did you remove all the packgaes you installed according to this guide: http://www.multimediaboom.com/instal...-in-fedora-15/ ?

One of the drivers was lurking behind. It's back to normal. Thanks for ur inputs and time. I am beginning to understand how to approach errors in linux.

Thanks
Kamal
