Fedora 14 Live CD not starting on HP 2530p laptop

I've had no problems with Linux Mint Live CD's, Mandriva works fine too, but after burning the latest Fedora 14 Gnome Live CD, boot attempts result in flashing Caps Lock/Num Lock and the optical drive just spinning but not seeking ... off into never-neverland.

Computer is HP 2530p with L9600 CPU.

Download checks out as good, tried burning a different CD but no change.

I have administered SAMBA and stuff like that before, but this is kinda a newbie question ...

Any ideas?

For what it is worth: have you checked your boot-order in the setup menu?
I suppose you have, but it might be worth checking.

Might reburn it at slowest speed or try a live usb.

I know I had trouble on an HP I7 laptop last year, it was the sata cd support bad.

yes but ...

in both cases "Linux Mint Live CD's, Mandriva works fine too." It couldn't be a bad SATA connection because that would have affected Mint as well, right? And if the boot sequence was off, it would likewise have affected the other distros. I'm just having a wild guess and thinking maybe Fedora doesn't like my graphics card or something...

Make a live usb then or burn it again at very slowest speed with another quality brand cd/dvd.
Be sure to boot up to and use the linux test cd in all cases.

I tried last night to burn a new CD not only at a lower rate but under PartEd Magic using simple burn to eliminate the possibility of driver issues under Windows XP. Absolutely the same results...

Try a live usb just to check.

cdburnerxp set as default iso -burner

I had the same result using a Fedora derivative called Fuduntu-14.5-i386-LiveDVD ... it would not boot either. The caps lock/num lock indicators flash as a pair five times, then pasuse, for a total of five iterations of that.

I am using a program called ImgBurn to create the CD/DVD's.

I downloaded the latest systemrescuecd-x86-1_6_4.iso and burned that last night and it boots just fine.

This leads me to conclude something about the Fedora and its derivatives don't like my system!

cdburnerxp is what I use in xp set it as your default iso burner and it'll work.

Mandriva 2010-2 Gnome "One" boots just fine!

I downloaded the ISO for Mandriva, burned it to a DVD and it boots just fine.
