fedora 13 dvd won't boot
i downloaded Fedora-13-i686-Live.iso from the fedora project web site, and did the instruction on how to burn it using dvd. i used nero selecting burn a CD from an image file. after doing that, i restarted my laptop to install fedora 13 choosing to start the boot at the disk dvd but it won't boot to run the installation. instead the laptop will resume booting to its previously installed OS, fedora 9.
i browse the dvd media and there are 3 folders namely EFI, isolinux, LiveOS and GPL file. what could had been the problem? thank you for any assistance. |
Check the md5 first, make sure that the ISO that u download isn't corrupted....
|
ls /media/Fedora-13-i686-Live/
Code:
EFI/ GPL isolinux/ LiveOS/ PGP "CHECKSUM" http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...-Live-CHECKSUM ..... http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu.../13/Live/i686/ . |
check your bios setting. Is your pc really trying to boot from cd, or going straight to HD.
As a test, boot from another live cd. As another test, boot another pc from that Fedora 13 cd |
Reburn at slowest burn speeds. Use a high quality dvd-r, some dvd-rw's may be quirky.
Test dvd on another system. Does your system boot to dvd's? Is dvd reader the first ide on that channel? |
dear friends,
thanks a lot. i'll checked the md5 as suggested following the instructions in fedora project. but i have a problem in curl. i used yum to install curl but i got repomd.xml error. i'll try your other suggestions and see if it works. i'll keep in touch. |
"i used yum to install curl but i got repomd.xml error."
if this is on the old and dead fedora 9 ( first post ) yum will not work .the repos have been moved to the historical archives see " Guides & Solutions (No Questions) " http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=12 "Repository configuration for older Fedora releases. " http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=221471 |
thank you for your suggestions. i got it running by booting it from the cd rom. my problem is that when i installed it using the live cd, i got very little applications. no office org, servers database, httpd, etc. how could i get a fedora 13 installer cd where everything is available?
thanks again. |
live cd's only have just under 700 meg of space
you might want to read the fedora doc web page http://fedoraproject.org/ http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/index.html and mjm's page http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f13.html Quote:
however from experience the dvd is not the best way . Fedora 13 has been out for about 1 month and there will be about 2 to 3 gig's of updates if you use the 3.6 gig dvd and do a full install http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-options#formats |
possible solution
To know what is installed and what could be installed:
yum grouplist|less then for example: yum groupinstall "Graphical Internet" or yum groupinstall "Office/Productivity" |
