Fedora 12 root login
Hello all,
I installed Fedora 12 on my computer laptop. Every time I boot the system, it does allow me to log in as a root user. It just allows me to log in the non administrator user I created during the setup. I want to be able to log in as root. Does anyone know how to enable root login on fedora? |

Kind regards |
there is a hack BUT IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
and if you use it some things in Gnome WILL NOT WORK RIGHT !! loged in as root in gnome you CAN NOT install software "yum" will not authenticate the network manager will not authenticate , and so on .There are a bunch of things that WILL NOT WORK RIGHT. Also fedora 12 is DEAD and unsupported there will NEVER be any updates to it please STAY CURRENT and install fedora 14 . |
root
You can login as root but it lands you in the root directory/partition and so any saved data will be there, unless you put it elsewhere, so better to visit rather than occupy.Going to the root directory is fine if you want to edit system files but having that constantly open is inviting risk.

Hello again,
I know all the risks associated with root danger login. This is a practice setup at home and if anything happens, I can always re-install the fedora again. I used to have Linux Centos flavor installed on the system and it gave the options to login as any user including root. Is there anything can be done on fedora to have the option enabling root user login directly? Thank you |

If you want to log-in as root, edit
/etc/pam.d/gdm /etc/pam.d/gdm-password In each file, comment out one line thus: # auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root And don't blame me if you suffer consequences! :tisk: |
