Fedora 11 lost sound during yum update
 

I have Fedora 11 running on a Compaq Presario SR5710F. When I installed Fedora 11 last summer I had a lot of trouble getting the sound to work right but eventually I got it working albeit not perfectly (often I couldn't get sound on reboot).

The sound was working when I did a yum update but the sound quit during the update. (possibly when mplayer was updated) I rebooted and got some sound -- kplayer worked but mplayer did not. But on the subsequent reboot there was no sound nor Kmix (Kmix is blank). I've re-installed alsa and pulse.

aplay -l returns : "device_list:223: no soundcards found..."

lspci -v gives

The sound card exists and is viable but linux just can't see it. (it worked a single time right after the update) One thing I keep wondering: what exactly does the OS (sound driver) look at to find the sound card?

I sure hope some sharp techie out there can help me fix this thing, I'm out of things to try.
